You can lose weight naturally and sustainably.

If weight loss is among your goals for improving your health, we have tools to help you.  We have had great success helping people lose weight, even in cases where there has been a lifelong struggle.  Our approach combines common sense with expert knowledge of the complex processes of energy production, storage, and fat metabolism.

These are the basic points of our approach, which you can begin using today.

Complete nutrition.

You can lose weight by starving, but you cannot starve forever and stay healthy.  If you starve yourself thin, you will not keep the weight off.

The goal is to be lighter, leaner, and healthy.  This is why you must eat high quality, nutritious food every single day.  Every day, your body needs clean water, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, co-enzymes, and high-quality fats in order to function.  If you have long-standing deficiencies, you might not be able to reach optimal levels of these nutrients without supplements.

Exercise.

You do not have to do any particular program, but if you want to lose weight naturally, you do have to exercise at least 5 times every week.  The exercise should be moderate, pain-free, and aerobic.  You can read our article here to find out what kind of program you should follow.

For some, excess weight causes stress and strain on the joints of the lower body.  The knees and ankles are particularly prone to weight-related problems.  In these cases, chiropractic treatment along with modification of exercise will restore function to the joints so they can tolerate exercise.

Once exercise and other weight-loss measures are well-established,  strength, flexibility, and vitality tend to improve together and reinforce each other.

Detoxification.

Many of the toxins which we encounter in our environment or make within our bodies are fat-soluble.  If the body cannot metabolize and excrete these toxins efficiently, they must be stored in the body somewhere.  Fat-soluble toxins are stored in fatty tissue.  This fatty tissue will not be "burned" if it is loaded with toxic chemicals.

Many people are slow detoxifiers, and this slow detoxifcation is the root cause of their obesity.  This can be a genetic or an acquired problem.  Whatever the cause, the answer is twofold:  first, you must decrease your daily toxic exposure.  Second, you must supplement your diet with substances to support healthy and efficient detoxifcation.  One of the more important aspects of a weight-loss evaluation is the determination of the need for supplements to support detoxification, restore nutrients to optimal levels, and regenerate damaged tissue.

Reasonable calorie restriction.

Unless you consistently burn more calories than you eat, your body will not tap into energy stored in fat, and you will not lose weight.  If you exercise, if your detoxification pathways are working well, and if you eat good quality food, you will feel good and lose weight eating 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day.  This level of caloric intake is sustainable over the long term.

Honest evaluation of eating habits, and willingness to release unhealthy feelings.

Many people want to lose weight, and their body would be able to lose weight, but they cannot control their eating.  For some, this is just a matter of habit.  Consistent mindfulness over a period of months will suffice to change these habits.

However, some of the time the loss of control revolves around self-love, relationships, childhood trauma, and other difficult and painful psychological issues.  This is not a psychological clinic, and we do not engage in therapy with patients.  However, we do recognize that there may be deep patterns of subconscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings at the root of overeating.  If this is the case, then you must be willing to face these issues with a mind to releasing unhealthy feelings and replacing them with love and appreciation.

Outside support is often necessary to help people begin this process and stick with it.

This is our approach to healthy, sustainable weight loss.  You may feel free to call or email our clinic if you would like to discuss your goals with Dr. Russ.
